About Driverless Rider
Driverless Rider is an independent guide for people who want to ride a robotaxi: a taxi with no one in the driver's seat that you book in an app. Waymo now carries hundreds of thousands of paying riders a week across more than a dozen US cities, Tesla and Amazon's Zoox charge for rides, and Uber and Lyft match riders with driverless cars from several partners. Outside the US, visitors to Dubai and Abu Dhabi can already be picked up by a car with nobody at the wheel.
We started this site because the practical answers riders need were scattered across company help pages, one-day news stories and forum threads: which cities and airports are covered, what a ride costs, whether a teenager can ride alone, whether you can bring a dog, and what to do after an accident.
What we cover
- Cities and airports: which services run where, with a dated city tracker.
- How to ride: booking, rules, kids and teens, accessibility, and driverless rides on Uber and Lyft.
- Prices: fares and comparisons, with a clear line between published rules, independent studies and estimates.
- Safety and the law: crash data in plain English and what to do when something goes wrong.
- Worldwide: driverless taxis for travelers in the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
Our principles
- Independent. We are not affiliated with Waymo, Tesla, Zoox, Uber, Lyft or any operator, and no company can pay for coverage or a better review.
- Sources first. Every guide links to the company's own rules, the regulator or reliable local reporting.
- Dated updates. Service areas change every few weeks. Each page shows when it was last checked and keeps an update log.
- Honest about limits. We are not lawyers. Our guides are general information, and we tell you when to talk to a professional.
