Short answer: yes, Waymo runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in every city where it's open, including late at night. The exception is bad weather: during severe storms, flood risk or heavy snow, Waymo can limit or pause rides, as it did in Atlanta, San Antonio, Dallas and Houston in May 2026.
Round-the-clock service is one of Waymo's biggest advantages over other robotaxis, which often stop at night. Here's what to expect at different times and in different weather. For the cities themselves, see Waymo cities.
Robotaxi hours compared
| Service | Hours |
|---|---|
| Waymo (Waymo app, Uber, Lyft) | 24/7 |
| Waymo at Phoenix Sky Harbor | 24/7 curbside |
| Tesla Robotaxi (Austin) | About 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (reported) |
| Zoox (Las Vegas) | 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. |
Hours as of October 21, 2026. Tesla's hours differ by city and have changed several times; check its app.
Late-night rides
Waymo's sensors don't need daylight: lidar and radar work the same in the dark, and the cameras are built for low light. Some riders say they prefer a Waymo late at night because there's no stranger in the driver's seat. A few things to know:
- Prices can be higher on Friday and Saturday nights. See Waymo prices.
- Wait times can be longer in the small hours, when fewer cars are out.
- Rules don't change: no open alcohol, and the person who booked is responsible for guests. See Waymo rules.
- Help is available 24/7 from the Support button on the car's screen.
Rain and fog
Normal rain isn't a problem. Waymo's radar sees through rain and fog, and the newest cars have cleaning systems that keep camera lenses clear. Waymo says its cars in Miami handle sudden tropical downpours.
Storms and flooding
Flooded roads are a different story. In May 2026, an empty Waymo drove into a flooded street in Atlanta and was stuck for about an hour. Waymo then:
- paused service in Atlanta and San Antonio while it worked on a fix;
- paused Dallas and Houston as a precaution before forecast severe weather;
- shipped a fleet update that limits driving at times and places with higher flood risk.
Waymo uses National Weather Service alerts among other signals to prepare for bad weather. If a flash flood or severe storm warning is in effect, expect fewer cars or a pause, and have a plan B.
Snow
Denver is Waymo's first real snow city. Its Ojai vehicles have heated sensors and small wipers, and Waymo tested winter driving in the Sierra Nevada, Michigan and New York. It still sets limits for snow and follows official travel advisories. See Waymo Denver.
What happens if service pauses during your trip?
Waymo doesn't publish a procedure for this. If your ride stops or you're unsure what's happening, press the Support button on the car's screen or call from the app: Support is available 24/7. See Waymo customer service.

Is Waymo 24/7?
Yes. Waymo says riders can hail a car 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in its service areas, including through Uber in Austin and Atlanta and Lyft in Nashville.
