Which app to use in each city

  • Waymo app (iOS and Android): Phoenix, San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Nashville, Denver and Las Vegas.
  • Uber app only: Austin and Atlanta. You can't request a Waymo directly; you order a regular ride and may be matched. Our guide to Waymo on Uber and Lyft explains how to raise your chances.
  • Waymo app or Lyft app: Nashville, where Lyft has matched riders with Waymo cars since September 2026.

You need to be 18 or older to create a Waymo account. Younger riders can travel as your guests, and teens aged 13 to 17 can have their own linked account in Phoenix and Nashville. Details in can kids and teens ride Waymo?

Airports Waymo serves

Waymo serves six major airports, but not all of them in the same way: Phoenix Sky Harbor (24/7 at the terminals), San José (both terminals), San Francisco (from the Rental Car Center, a short AirTrain ride from the terminals), San Antonio, Nashville and, from October 21, 2026, Las Vegas. Los Angeles (LAX) and Miami (MIA) are not served for the public. See Waymo at the airport for pickup spots.

Freeways: where Waymo uses them

In May 2026 Waymo paused all freeway trips after federal regulators said its cars had driven past ramp closures in construction zones in Arizona and California. It updated the software on 3,871 cars and began restoring freeway trips in Phoenix on July 29. Select riders in Austin and Miami also get highway routes. In the Bay Area and Los Angeles, plan on surface streets until Waymo confirms otherwise. The app only routes you on a freeway when it is meaningfully faster.

Where Waymo is going next

  • Washington, D.C.: announced for 2026; it depends on local rules allowing driverless operation.
  • London: Waymo has confirmed a launch with its own app and Jaguar I-Pace cars; no date yet. See driverless taxis in London.
  • Toronto: testing now, launch targeted for 2028.
  • New York: testing with a safety driver only.

Waymo says it "can't yet say where we're headed next" beyond announced cities. The best way to hear first is to open the Waymo app in your city and join the interest list.

Frequently asked questions

How many cities is Waymo in?

As of October 2026, Waymo takes public riders in 15 US metro areas: 12 open to everyone in the Waymo app (Phoenix, San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Nashville), Austin and Atlanta through Uber, and Las Vegas through rolling invitations.

Is Waymo in New York?

No. Waymo has tested in New York City with a safety driver, but there is no public service and no launch date.

Why can't I find Waymo in the app in Austin?

In Austin and Atlanta, Waymo is only available through Uber. Order an UberX, Uber Comfort or Uber Electric and switch on autonomous vehicles in your Uber ride preferences.

Does Waymo go on the freeway?
