Short answer: report it right away in the Waymo app (Help › contact Support by chat, email or phone) or call 1 (844) 261-3753. Waymo keeps lost items for 7 days, and you pick them up at a Waymo depot once Support confirms the item is ready. Waymo doesn't reimburse lost items, so act fast.
With no driver to text, losing something in a robotaxi feels scarier than in an Uber. Waymo does have a lost and found process, and cameras check the cabin after each ride. Here's how it works, and how to reach Waymo customer service for anything else.
Lost item: step by step
- Report it. In the Waymo app, open the Help tab and contact Support by chat, email or phone. No app? Call 1 (844) 261-3753 or fill in Waymo's online "Report lost item" form.
- Describe it. Give the trip time, where you sat and what the item looks like.
- Wait for confirmation. Don't go to a depot until Support tells you the item is ready for pickup.
- Collect it. Go to the Waymo depot Support gives you. Waymo says depots are open for pickup 24/7.
Items are only stored for 7 days. Bottles, smoking-related items, umbrellas and food aren't kept at all.
Bags stuck in the trunk
The most stressful case is luggage left in the trunk at the airport. In April 2026, a rider at San José airport said the trunk wouldn't open and the car drove off to a depot with his suitcase. Waymo first offered free rides to collect it, then agreed to ship it after local TV got involved. To avoid this:
- Open the trunk and take your bags out before you close the last door.
- If the trunk won't open, stay with the car and press Support on the screen or call from the app immediately.
- For airport trips, keep valuables and documents in the cabin with you. See Waymo at the airport.
Found something someone else left?
Don't take it with you. Tap Support on the car's screen during your ride and describe the item; Support will tell you what to do.

Disputing a cleaning or damage fee
If you think a cleaning fee is wrong, email Support from the app with the trip details. Report any mess or damage you find when you get in, so it isn't blamed on you. Fees are explained in can you eat in a Waymo and Waymo rules.
Rides booked through Uber or Lyft
In Austin and Atlanta (Uber) and Nashville (Lyft), start with the app you booked in: it has the trip record and handles payment. For an item left in the car, you can also use Waymo's lost item form. See Waymo on Uber and Lyft.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get something I left in a Waymo?
Report it as soon as possible: in the Waymo app go to Help and contact Support by chat, email or phone, or call 1 (844) 261-3753, or use the online lost item form. When Support confirms your item is ready, pick it up at a Waymo depot.
How long does Waymo keep lost items?
Seven days. After that, items may not be kept. Waymo doesn't store bottles, smoking-related items, umbrellas or food at all.
What is Waymo's customer service number?
For lost items, Waymo lists 1 (844) 261-3753. For everything else, contact Support from the Help tab in the app (call, chat or email) or the Support button on the car's screen during a ride. Support is available 24/7 in English.
Will Waymo pay for a lost item?
No. Waymo says it doesn't provide refunds or reimbursement for the value of lost items, and it can't guarantee they'll be found or returned undamaged.
I left something in a Waymo booked through Uber. Who do I contact?
Start with the Uber app's lost item option for that trip. If that doesn't work, contact Waymo Support or use Waymo's lost item form, since the car belongs to Waymo.
