Short answer: in Atlanta you can only ride Waymo through Uber. Turn on autonomous rides in the Uber app, then request UberX, Uber Electric, Comfort or Comfort Electric inside the service area, which covers Midtown, Downtown, Buckhead, Old Fourth Ward, Kirkwood, Decatur and more, 24/7. A Waymo match isn't guaranteed, and airport trips aren't included.
Waymo launched in Atlanta in June 2025 as an Uber exclusive, after Austin. The setup is the same in both cities, and our step-by-step guide to getting a Waymo on Uber covers the app settings. This page is about Atlanta itself.

- Center: Midtown, Downtown and Old Fourth Ward.
- East: Kirkwood, plus the cities of Decatur and North Druid Hills.
- South and west: Adams Park, Fort McPherson, South Atlanta and Egan Park.
Both your pickup and your destination must be inside the area for Uber to offer a Waymo.
Want a Waymo? Request from the middle of the area (Midtown or Old Fourth Ward) at off-peak hours, when more cars are free. You can decline a Waymo match and get a regular driver instead.
Storms and the May 2026 pause
On May 20, 2026, an empty Waymo drove into a flooded Atlanta street and was stuck for about an hour. Waymo then paused service in Atlanta and San Antonio while it worked on a fix, after a software recall the week before. Rides have since resumed, but Atlanta's summer storms are exactly the conditions Waymo is careful about now, so expect pauses during flood warnings. See Waymo hours and weather.
Hartsfield-Jackson airport
Uber doesn't match airport trips with Waymo in Atlanta, so you'll get a regular driver for ATL. The airports Waymo does serve are listed in Waymo at the airport.
Other driverless options
Lyft offers May Mobility autonomous rides in Atlanta with a safety operator aboard. Zoox is testing but doesn't carry the public. Reports from Uber say Waymo plans to add its own app in Atlanta in the future while staying on Uber; there's no confirmed date.
