Short answer: Waymo is open to everyone in Dallas, 24/7, in the Waymo app. It covers about 50 square miles, including Downtown, Deep Ellum, Oak Lawn, Bishop Arts and South Dallas, plus Highland Park and University Park. It doesn't serve Love Field or DFW yet and doesn't use freeways. Tesla Robotaxi and Avride (on Uber) also run in Dallas.

Waymo started in Dallas in February 2026 with invited riders and dropped the waitlist on August 4, 2026. Dallas is now one of the most crowded robotaxi markets in the US. Here's how to choose. For other cities, see every Waymo city.

Where Waymo goes in Dallas

  • Central Dallas: Downtown, Deep Ellum, Oak Lawn and the areas around them.
  • South of the Trinity: Bishop Arts and South Dallas.
  • The Park Cities: Highland Park and University Park, including the SMU area.

Rides are limited to city streets inside the service area. The app shows the exact boundary.

Love Field and DFW

Waymo is testing fully driverless operations at the Dallas Love Field terminals and says it expects to serve travelers there "soon". There's no date, and Waymo hasn't announced plans for DFW. For now, take a regular ride to the airport. Our airport guide lists the airports Waymo already serves, including San Antonio.

Freeways

Dallas trips stay off the freeways for now, which makes longer trips slower than an Uber. Waymo has said freeway testing in Dallas comes first, and it's the final step before public freeway rides. In Austin and Phoenix, freeway trips started for select riders after testing, so expect the same pattern here.

Tesla Robotaxi and Avride

AvrideUber app: opt in, then UberX, Comfort or Comfort ElectricOperator aboard

Avride's area on Uber grew from 9 square miles at launch in December 2025 to about 31 square miles of central Dallas north of the Trinity River. Up to three riders sit in the back. Tesla's riders aged 8 to 17 can ride with an adult. See Tesla Robotaxi vs Waymo.

Dallas tips

  • Storms can pause service: Waymo halted rides in Dallas and Houston as a precaution during severe weather in May 2026. See Waymo hours and weather.
  • For Mavericks and Stars games at the American Airlines Center, book a few blocks away from the arena.
  • Compare prices with Uber before you book: see Waymo vs Uber.
